Card Writer Spotlight:
St. Louis Military Support Affinity Group
Tom Krewson mailed us a large flat-rate box loaded with all kinds of recovery wishes and "thanks for your service" cards. They ranged from purchased cards with lovely heartfelt sentiments to hand-made and crafted cards, to artwork cards made by the young. The love in that box was enormous!
THANK YOU St. Louis MSAG!

Greetings!
Memorial Day is our official remembrance of those who gave their lives in defense of freedom. We would like the families of those who have lost a loved one to know how much they are thought of and prayed for each and every day. When you think about it, we have many reminders of our liberty, and stopping to thank those who keep it for us is imperative.

This month, make a trip to the Veteran's Cemetery near you and pray a word of thanks to all who have gone before us, having served their country well. Barbara Gemmell Volunteer Manager Operation PAL™ MarineParents.com, Inc. |

Participant Spotlight
LCpl. Joey, 3/6 Lima

On May 19, 2012, it will be two years since Joey was severely wounded in Afghanistan by an IED explosion.
He sustained multiple injuries. including many shrapnel wounds, traumatic brain injury (TBI), a fracture to his eye socket, a collapsed lung and a severed artery in his knee.
Since then he has had many surgeries and is currently in rehab with others who have been wounded.
Doctors had hoped the surgery he had last November would be his last, but Dad now says there may be more. In his words, "Joey continues with his therapy and his own physical fitness in the gym. Any further surgery on his left ear is uncertain. His medical evaluation and medical boards await to determine his future."
Have you written to Joey before? It's time to pick up a pen and do it again. Help Joey get through this tough rehab and waiting period. It's hard enough to work on recovery, much less have to wait while all the decisions detemining your future are finalized. It's hard on the whole family.

Where Are They Now?
Recruit Stefanie - MCRD PI

Stefanie was a new recruit at Parris Island in May 2011. She was in great shape. She even went to live with a military family for a few months before she enlisted so that she'd breeze through the physical requirements, which she did. Then June came and an incident that changed her forever. She was in a training exercise, lost her grip and fell more than 20 feet, fracturing multiple vertebrae. Miraculously, she was not paralyzed, but the fractures were serious and pain was a huge factor.
