Participant Update: LCpl. John, 2/3

Remember LCpl. John 2/3? He was on our list from 2006-2007. He has three Purple Hearts. When he was shot the first time, he considered it only a scratch. Lucky. The second time, the bullet went straight through. Lucky. The third time, the bullet hit him in the head. Not so lucky. Many hours, many prayers, many months and many miracles later, John's brain function improved and has continued to progress. His Mom wrote a book "My Miracle Marine," that documents their journey as he progressed from a prognosis of never coming out of the coma, to everything he is doing today.

Last spring, John married Chrissa. His best man was Mario, the brave young Marine who pulled John out of the sniper's fire. Mom says the miracles continue.

In her words, "God has blessed us so much, and bringing Chrissa into John's life is truly another miracle. Chrissa lived next door to John when he moved out of our house in 2007, four months after returning from his recovery at the specialty center. How fateful is that!??!? She was literally the 'girl next door!!' But here's the real kicker. Just before he moved in, she started medical school. She is now a doctor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation!!!! She takes care of people just like what he WAS!! HE's got his own private doctor!!!! How fateful is that!??!?"

If you've ever met John's Mom you'd know that Connie needs all those exclamation points when she writes because that's exactly the way she talks. She shared these great photos of their day so you can see just how well John is doing. We love the picture of their cake topper which was created with striking resemblance of the bride and groom. The cake looks delicious too! Congratulations to the happy couple!

We are no longer sending cards to John, but if you are interested in reading "My Miracle Marine," visit www.MyMiracleMarine.com.
