Staff Sgt. David was shot, which caused him to fall off a 3 story building. He has been in and out of hospitals and rehab learning to walk again. His wife says he has good days but sustaining his strength is difficult. Even though we just learned about him, they've been dealing with this for a while.
Update: 6/10/2009 Whoops! He received his first cards and wrote he hoped no one would be mad if they found out he was Army. Mad?...No way. I had been told David was a Marine, but he's here now and I told him we are honored to have a guest Army member.
He said he loves to read letters and really enjoys getting them. I told him we'd keep them coming.
He was shot in Iraq in 2004. He had been deployed for 5.7 years to various Middle East assignments and "only got shot once". He is now retired after "23 good years" and has this new challenge to face. His family's prayers go out to those who are still fighting. He worked right next to Marines and has only good things to say about them.
Well David, we admire you too!
Update: 5/25/2010 from David to all of our card writers: "I want to thank you very much for the many thank you cards! Wow, there are so many caring people I did not know existed. I have
minor brain damage and will be in therapy for another year or so. But you can give the cards to others who have
major problems. I thank you and for what you do for Injured Soldiers coming home. It really helped me heal
my wounds! Thank you again.
David"
David, we hope your remaining therapy gives you the ability to feel comfortable in your "new normal".
We have loved being able to be a part of your recovery! .....and GO ARMY! :)
