Sgt. Bryan stepped on an IED in Afghanistan. By the grace of God only the blasting cap exploded, but he still sustained fractures to his ankle and foot. His Mom said he hopes to teach history one day and would love to hear from children. He knows how uplifting their thoughts can be.
Update: 10/4/08 from Mom: Bryan is doing well. They did surgery the same day he arrived and his ankle was injured more than the x-ray's showed, however, they were able to repair it, he will just have a longer recovery and have to stay on hospital grounds for a couple of months. Still expecting a full recovery. I have had the privilege to visit with some of our 2/7 wounded hero's and (some of the families) while here and they are truly amazing young men. The support here for our wounded and for the families is simply amazing. The cards Bryan has received so far have brought tears to all our eyes and we can't thank everyone enough for their prayers and support.
Update: 10/11/2008 (from Mom) Bryan had his cast off, xrays and stitches out yesterday. The surgeons are very pleased with his progress. They put a boot on instead of a hard cast. He is supposed to take the boot off twice a day and stretch his ankle. Still no weight on it for 4 more weeks, then he can start putting light weight on it and start therapy. After 4 weeks they said he could either go to his base or home for his therapy. He was pretty happy with his appt. They are going to leave the wire in as long as it doesn't bother him.
Update: 5/26/2009 email from Mom
"I am so glad you emailed me. With the last package of cards I have been intending to contact you and ask you to remove Bryan from OperationPal. The cards and letters have been amazing and wonderful, Bryan and I both have been inspired by them. He is truly amazed at how wonderful the people of this country are with all of their support for our troops. Bryan is back at work and has been fully released from medical care. They left the wires and screws in for now, unless they start to bother him, then they will remove them at that time. He has finally been able to start running again, which he loves, and all is going well. He does have some slight pain now and then, and the doctors said that will probably always be there, but it is a small price to pay. He is going to get out of the Marines and return to school full time in August and finish his History degree. All of the encouraging letters from the students really made him want to finish his degree. Please post a HUGE Thank You to everyone who wrote to him, there were just too many to respond personally to all of them, but every one was read and is being kept by Bryan. OperationPal truly provides hope and encouragement for our wounded. Thank you for what you do and God Bless you.
