LCpl Jose was wounded in February 2007 in Iraq. An explosive went off in the vehicle he was manning and some shrapnel lodged in his brain. He was then shot in the left hand, losing part of a finger, and also shot in the chest.
He was left with traumatic brain injury and has lost the use of his right leg. It would be good of you to send him some cheer as he fights to gain strength and functionality.
Update November 2007 Jose has been able to stand. He is moving to out-patient therapy and we hear that his Mom is "all smiles". Thank you for helping him through his toughest times. Jose, we hope your recovery is complete and will keep you in our prayers even though we will stop writing.
Update: 5/2/2010 We have heard that "Homes for the Troops" is building Jose a home that will be fully wheelchair accessible.
He says it's hard to believe it's actually happening. "I'm a very proud person. I've always done things for myself and kept my feelings in check, but this is just amazing."
"This is the American dream," he said. "People work their whole lives to own their own house.
I've got everything I ever wanted."
Jose, we wish you much happiness in your new home!
