Information and Updates for LCpl. Matt with 1/6 Weapons
Last Update: 7/3/2010             << Back to list

Operation PAL Participant LCpl. Matt suffered multiple gunshot wounds this month while deployed to Afghanistan. Mom says his arm was hit twice and the extent of the injuries is still being determined but the road to recovery will be long. He faces surgeries and heavy duty rehab. Please send him some encouragement as he works to heal and regain function in his arm, hand and fingers.

Update: 3/28/2010 from Mom: He's home for recupertive leave. He's in good spirits and wants to thank all of you for the cards and letters you have sent. Mom says he wanted to write back but can't because it's his right arm that was injured. He can move his fingers but he still can't feel his thumb and index finger and does not move his elbow. I told him we don't expect him to write back and that I would post his thanks here.
His occupational therapy continues while he's on leave and an appointment with a neurosurgeon may shed some light on how that feeling and full range of motion may be restored.
Matt, we hope you have a very 'fun' leave and remember "Don't do too much!" Mom says it's hard to keep him down for long but he's supposed to rest. We can only hope he does....at least a little.

Update: 7/3/2010 from Mom. Matt went back to the hospital and is doing well. It was determined he does not need grafts and his nerves were repaired, but the only feeling he has is a slight burning sensation. He is gradually gaining strength but with muscle atrophy that is a long and hard road. His spirits are good and he works hard at OT and PT.
We are glad to hear you are progressing Matt! Keep up the good work.
