LCpl. Ed was seriously wounded by an IED explosion in Afghanistan in early August. His family says he would like to hear from you. Please consider sending him some cheer as he works hard on his long recovery.
Update 9/13/09 This past week LCpl. Ed was fitted with his first new foot and practiced with it at physical therapy. His family states they are all very excited. His outlook and attitude are good and he is determined during rehab. Please keep Ed in your prayers for a strong recovery and send words of encouragement to this warrior.
Update 9/27/09 A few days ago, Ed's parents, Mike and Darlene, updated us with good news that he continues doing well with his rehab. Ed has his new foot and is adapting to it faster than expected. The doctors are already talking about measuring him for the next one, which means that as the swelling continues to go down, a snugger fit is needed. Recently, Ed went kayaking with a group of Wounded Warriors and other amputees. Darlene said it is so good to see him walking again, and getting back into life. His pain meds are not needed as often anymore, and she prays that all meds can be weaned in the near future and that his system will be back to normal soon. She said "I realize that God is in control and His timing is different than my timing. Mike and I are grateful to be able to stay here and support him during this time, and so grateful for all of you who are praying. Thanks and love to you all." We all are extremely grateful for Ed's continuing strong progress, please keep your prayers going for him and his family.
Update 11/08/09 Darlene recently wrote that LCpl. Ed has gotten a second prosthesis that is working well for him. In addition, he and his Dad recently were able to travel to Hawaii to welcome his unit back home from Afghanistan. We are sure that was an emotional homecoming for all. Darlene states Ed was happy to get his last batch of mail, so please keep sending him words of support as he continues on his path to recovery.
Update: December 4, 2009 Ed's Mom let us know that he is continuting to do well and is involved in many of the sporting activities being offered to the wounded at the hospital. I recently posted that Gny Marcus played wheelchair basketball at the White House. What I didn't know was that Ed was on the team too! He is #12 in the yellow jersey. Just go up on the left of this page to 'Announcements' and watch the video. OohRah Ed!
Update: December 9, 2009 Ed's Mom says you have done such a great job of sending encouragement that he now feels ready to come off our list. She said he is doing well with the new leg, continuing with the sports programs, and talking about beginning college classes.
We wish you the best, Ed and know you will be very successful in everything you do.
