LCpl. Michael encountered an IED explosion in Afghanistan in June 2011. His injuries include the loss of his legs, damage to his left hand and shrapnel wounds. He has been recovering and working with prosthetics to get back some functionality.

We have received a request for cards from an Army wife. Jennifer's husband, Brian, sustained many severe injuries from an IED attack in Afghanistan in early August 2011. We understand he opens his eyes when someone talks to him but there is no communication yet. He has lost both legs below the knee, at least one finger and both arms have fractures. He also has hearing damage, and the concussive force of the explosion caused a traumatic brain injury.

Lance Corporal Joshua was out on patrol last week in Afghanistan when he encountered a hidden explosive device. In the explosion, he lost one leg above the knee and another below the knee as well as sustaining ear damage. Usually we list Marines who have been wounded in combat but we've been notified by a member that her daughter has broken her back in Recruit training (not yet Marines) at Parris Island in mid-June. Stefanie's mother says Stefanie has wanted to be a Marine all of her life and to have this happen when she was well on her way to becoming one is heartbreaking at best. LCpl. Cody's Mom let us know she's received a phone call that her son has been seriously injured. He was wounded when a rocket propelled granade struck where he was on duty and he sustained shrapnel to his neck. He is currently in ICU and she has asked for prayers of support. Cpl. Todd was injured in Afghanistan last October by an IED. He is a triple amputee and has been working to stabilize and learn his new normal. Lance Corporal Timothy was injured in Afghanistan in early December, 2010. He sustained many injuries, resulting in internal organ damage and a need for surgery on his foot.

Corporal Chris was wounded in Afghanistan in early December 2010. He has lost both legs and the doctors are currently trying to save a hand that he may still lose. Chris comes from a large family with strong military ties. His father and grandfather are Marines and one of his cousins is an active duty Marine. He also has a brother-in-law serving in the Army.

Lance Corporal Jeff sustained major injuries to one leg and much shrapnel in both, from an IED in Afghanistan at the end of October, 2010. Mom has been able to talk to him and although in much pain he told her "I want my guys to know I'll be alright."

Sergeant James was injured in Afghanistan in late October 2010. He has lost his left leg. Also, his right leg and foot were crushed and will need surgeries. Sgt. James is married.

A mid-May IED blast in Afghanistan has seriously wounded PFC Joey. He sustained multiple injuries including many shrapnel wounds, tbi, a fracture to his eye socket, collapsed lung and severed artery in his knee. We met Lance Corporal Kevin and his Mom when the Purple Heart Family Support provided a meal at the hospital. He and his Mom came in for some burritos and salad. He suffered a severe head injury in March and will have a very long recuperation. Mom said they would like to know they are not alone in this struggle.

Lance Corporal Jesse survived an IED blast Aug 6 in Afghanistan that killed 4 others. The blast not only caused severe lower extremity injuries but threw him 75 feet.
His Dad said he'd like to receive some sunshine in the mail from you so please write him a note.

Eddie was shot twice in the head in April 2005. One bullet hit his jaw but the other went into his brain. Eddie has been in the fight of his life and is doing better than anyone expected but still has far to go. His Mom says he loves to hear from people so let him know you are out there. HM3 Anthony was injured on April 20, 2007 when a vehicle full of explosives was detonated under the overpass his Marines were guarding. He and 7 others were injured in the incident. Anthony sustained a severe head injury, an injury to his lower back, a punctured right lung and minor scrapes and scratches on his legs, hands, arms and face.
Anthony is the 'Doc' of the group and he takes great pride in his job and in "his" Marines who were so lucky to have his wonderful care.
